Strengthening Health Systems and Communities
IRIA works at the intersection of research, innovation, and community engagement to address critical global health challenges across Africa. Our work is grounded in rigorous evidence, ethical practice, and meaningful collaboration with local and regional partners. We translate research into action by supporting health systems, informing policy, and building capacity where it is needed most.
Global Health & Tropical Medicine Research
We conduct multidisciplinary research focused on understanding and addressing major health challenges affecting communities in Africa. Our research prioritizes real-world relevance and practical application, ensuring that findings contribute to improved health outcomes and informed decision-making.
Key focus areas include:
Infectious and neglected tropical diseases
Maternal, newborn, and child health
Public and environmental health
Social and behavioral determinants of health
Emerging and re-emerging health threats
Our research integrates quantitative and qualitative methods and is guided by strong ethical oversight and community participation.
Fieldwork Programs & Experiential Learning
IRIA designs and delivers structured fieldwork programs that provide hands-on learning opportunities in clinical and community health settings. These programs bridge theory and practice, offering participants practical exposure while contributing to ongoing health and research initiatives.
Our fieldwork programs emphasize:
Supervised clinical and public health exposure
Ethical engagement with communities
Applied research and data collection
Skills development for early-career professionals
Through these programs, participants gain insight into health systems in low-resource contexts while supporting local healthcare efforts.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)
IRIA supports organizations and programs through monitoring, evaluation, and learning services that strengthen accountability and impact. We help partners understand what works, why it works, and how to improve.
Our MEL services include:
Program design and results frameworks
Data collection and analysis
Impact assessments
Learning and adaptive management support
We prioritize practical, user-friendly evaluation tools that inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing
IRIA is committed to strengthening local and regional capacity in research, public health, and program implementation. We support learning through training, mentorship, and knowledge exchange.
Capacity-building activities include:
Training workshops and short courses
Research mentorship for students and early-career professionals
Technical assistance to partner organizations
