Michael Roberts, PhD

Michael Roberts is a musician, educator, and arts-based researcher with over 25 years  experience in international education. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Newport Folk Festival, and his work has been featured on National Public Radio. He began his career as a group leader of short-term study abroad programs in Mongolia and China, and worked for 17 years supporting School for International Training’s study abroad Africa programs, where he also filled a variety of roles, including in communications, operations, program development, and adjunct faculty. Michael is the Director of Community Engagement at Retreat Farm, a land-based non-profit based in Vermont. Michael holds a BA in ethnomusicology from Bates College, a certificate in folk music, an MA in International Education, and an Ed.D in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from University of Vermont. His current research focuses on sound, song, place and community in environmental education settings.
